I started off with an artboard base to support the stripwood siding. This is an alternative to building with wood supports and has the advantage of being a lot sturdier and easier to do. This particular artboard is very dense and is black all the way through. The stripwood gets a stain of alcohol/india ink wash on both sides. Obviously only one side will show, but coating both sides prevents warping. It's essential to stain before gluing, as any glue residue - and there is always some - will act as a resist for the stain. I used Weldbond, a tupe of white glue, to attach the wood.
